Celebrating Marriage Conference (September 15-16, 2017)

Everything we do at the Church at Martinsburg has one primary objective: help people find and follow Jesus, and this conference is no different. Whether you're just beginning to think about marriage, a few years in or have been married for decades, we all could use some help.

As husbands, we need help to love our wives well as we work to live with them in an understanding way. As wives, we need help to lovingly submit to the Godly leadership of our husbands. The healthier our marriages are, the brighter our light will shine in front of a lost world. God gave us the gift of marriage to know Him and to make Him known.

We want to help believers follow Jesus more closely and we want to help unbelievers find the beauty of Jesus for the very first time. So if you're a Christian, come... but don't come just with your spouse. Why not invite your Top5 to join you as you together learn how God designed marriage to help people find and follow Jesus.

We'll address three main topics during our time together:

  • Celebrating the Promise of Marriage – Focuses on the covenant of marriage and how our culture influences us to be selfish rather than covenant keeping spouses.
  • Celebrating the Privilege of Marriage – Focuses on the blessing of friendship in marriage and things we can do to cultivate that friendship.
  • Celebrating the Proclamation of Marriage – Focuses on our responsibility in marriage to serve others and be a picture of Christ’s love for the church to a watching world.

Summary of the Conference

This conference is designed for married couples of all ages who desire to celebrate their marriage. After each session thought provoking questions will be provided for discussion with your spouse as well as with the larger group. During our time together we will look at the covenant of love God extends to us, as well as how we should extend that covenant to our spouse. Then we will celebrate the privilege of friendship in marriage. Finally, we will celebrate the privilege of proclaiming the gospel through our marriages. This material has been tested in the fires of very difficult marriages and God has used these teachings to restore what once was broken.

Our Speaker: Scott O'Malley (Twelve Stones Ministries)

Scott has served as Staff Counselor/Apprentice Coordinator of Twelve Stones Ministries since 2007. He has worked with troubled children and families in a variety of settings for over 15 years. After working with hundreds of troubled children in residential care for over 7 years, and seeing the devastation of broken marriages on children, Scott finally realized that the best way to help children is to teach their parents how to live biblically to the glory of God. Scott has a Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Counseling from the Master’s College, CA. Scott & Tara have been married for 25 years. They have 8 children, one of whom is adopted.  O'Malley (1)
