Loving Your Neighbor…
“And the second is like it; You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” These are the words of Jesus as he is responding to an individual asking about what’s most important in life and in the law. Jesus provides the listener with a staunch reminder that loving God apart from loving people is not loving God at all.
Within Christian movements there is a deep striving to love God well and to honor him with the entire heart, soul, and mind. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 22 that in order to fully please God we cannot forgo the command to love and serve others. The most joy-filled expressions you can experience in life often come through serving both God and others simultaneously. Neither can be fully completed apart from the other.
As you consider what is ahead for you in the next few days make sure to evaluate what opportunities are right in front of you to love your neighbor. What you do not need is a list of how to do that, rather what would be most helpful for you is to engage your neighbor in life, community, and conversation. How do you best serve your neighbor and your God….by getting to know him first!
