OP:THX 2017

Op:Thx (Operation Thanks) is a community service program initiated by the Church at Martinsburg to serve the communities of Berkeley County and surrounding areas. The city of Martinsburg is a rapidly growing city with an increasing population living in poverty, some of whom are unemployed or are underemployed. Op:Thx is a wonderful opportunity for us to impact our community by providing meals for the hungry and partner with with other local organizations to serve the community.

How many frozen turkeys are needed?

Our goal for 2017 is 475 frozen turkeys but we will find more homes for turkeys when we surpass this goal. Since Op:Thx began in 2009, our church has provided more than 2,500 turkeys to local families in need - that's more than 18 tons of turkey, or enough to feed a quarter of Berkeley County!

When / Where is Op:Thx?

This year, it is Saturday, November 18th (the Saturday before Thanksgiving). This year, we will gather at 7:30am in the parking lot at 50 Monroe.

What happens on the day of OP:THX?

In short - a lot happens! We receive all the frozen turkeys, tag them for distribution, load them in trucks for delivery, go to delivery sites, and then unload turkeys for our community partners. We do all this while enjoying warm drinks and fellowship with our faith family.

How do I help with OP:THX?

Initially you can help by pledging to provide frozen turkeys. Whether you can afford to give 1 or 50, each turkey helps a family in need. Please tell your community group leader how many turkeys you are pledging. If you're not currently involved in a group, please contact us at (304) 596-9330.

Next, bring your coat, gloves, and turkeys on November 18th and jump into serving Berkeley County.

Third, join with your community group to serve your immediate community by providing a home for at least one frozen turkey in a creative way.

How do we deliver all these turkeys?

We load the frozen turkeys in the back of pickup trucks and take them to several area charities.

What charities help us distribute the frozen turkeys?

The church has joined with several area charities, including:

  • CCAP Loaves and Fishes
  • YoungLives
  • Rescue Mission
  • Boys & Girls Club
  • Closet of Hope (Westview Baptist Church)
  • Other charities as we gather more turkeys
